[details for makers] The sheer linen curtains I looked out during the pandemic. They allowed light into our home in the most beautiful way. This series is a rumination on missed connections, tattered objects, and my love for all that’s worn down by our lives. Other materials included are scraps from my quilting practice, leftover and reclaimed threads, and an old pillowcase (the framing fabric). I’m grateful that you crossed paths with my work and hope the right path is created in giving these pieces homes.
Piece measures 5” x 5” and is stretched over a canvas.

[details] Through the year, I held onto the smallest scraps from things that I made. In the summer, I used thread scraps and junk mail to make paper. In the fall, I collected and pressed leaves. I used nothing new to make this collection. Through Rajab and Shaban (the months leading up to Ramadan), I made it my intention to turn all those precious remnants into artwork. Removing the smallest threads, and weaving others in. Using the tiniest stitches to create Kufic calligraphy (reading Allah - God). Maybe even when it feels like there’s nothing left, we actually have more than we realize. โจ

I’m hoping to release the pattern around the time of the convention, but I’m pretty great at procrastinating, so we’ll see! I didn’t ever care that much for the curtains that I used as the main fabric. But somehow as a quilt, I couldn’t adore that same fabric more. ๐

[details for makers] The background fabric is the first set of curtains that I bought. From ikea. They felt like a real upgrade after only ever having blinds. We haven’t used them in ages and I think this is the last one. Other panels went into the kinds of projects that took up my life when my kids were young. Lots of bean bags. As I was finishing this quilt top, I found myself wishing I hadn’t wasted the fabric on such short-term projects that disappeared so quickly from our lives.
But life disappears quickly no matter what we do. And I’m so grateful for the bean bag making years and that I can be drawn back to such beautiful memories by using the rest of those curtains on this project. ๐งต
